Space can be an issue in a garage, especially if you regularly store a vehicle in yours, but that doesn’t mean there is no room whatsoever for other belongings. Shelving can be really important in a garage, and it can means there’s always space for tools, household cleaning supplies and bikes.

If you do a have a little room to manoeuvre in your garage then you may want to consider adding in garage cabinets. These can be placed down one side of the garage, and inside you can have different shelves and cupboards for different belongings.

You can also think outside the box, and there are now hanging racks for bikes and other items that are placed on the ceiling of the garage, while work benches around the outside can make way for more clutter. Even small garages can have some space to play with and you don’t always have to remove your vehicle to make way for household items.

A garage may not be the first room in a property that comes to mind when you think about the term ‘interior design’ but there are many different purposes for garages today, and it means there are plenty of options in terms of interior.

Some garages are used as workshops, and exposed brick walls with shelving and industrial storage units can bring a DIY feel, while swanky tables, chairs and filing cabinets are ideal for office designs.

Some garages are multipurpose and if you want to store vehicles and have a different space for another purpose, then splitting up different areas with two completely contrasting design scan be ideal. Many garages look good on the outside, and all that’s required is a nice looking door, but that inside is important too and it all depend on the purpose of your garage.

There are more different garage door designs out there than one can imagine, but not many quite flaunt the classic traditional style like a timber arched and side hinged door. This type of door often has to be custom-made for the traditionally styled buildings.

These doors often include period features such as door knockers or cast iron details and if an extremely solid cut of timber is used they offer a high level of security. Design can be etched into these doors and today many can actually be equipped with remote operation. This is something that’s expected with sectional doors and roller shutters, and it’s always a nice surprise for guests when you see two side hinged doors open for your vehicle to enter.

If you don’t want to damage your home’s traditional style, then a timber arched and side hinged door can be an ideal option, but you do have to have the right type of property to facilitate this traditionally styled door.

Garages are not always used to store our vehicles, and if you have a relatively unoccupied garage then it doesn’t take too many adjustments to turn it into a home gym. If you have an insulated garage that’s connected to your property, then you may only need to change the flooring and then it’s just a case of adding in the gym furniture.

More adjustments need to be made if you have a separated gym that requires electricity for your equipment as well as lighting. Many modern homes will benefit from garages that are good to go, and clearing yup clutter, adding in gym equipment and putting up some motivational posters is often all it takes. It is important to remember that a gym in the garage becomes a gym, and if you ever want to empty your garage for a vehicle you’ll need to a place to put your various pieces of equipment.

Home gyms can be personalised to suit your needs and this is why you should plan out your gym ideas in advance, rather than ‘winging it’ and regretting decision later on.
