When it comes to garage doors there are so many different types and styles, so we have put together a list of the top 5 doors for any households garage.
Roller shutter doors- This type of door provides a secure and durable system for any house, with its tough structure it is very difficult to damage. However, this door type is not advised for houses with small garages because the doors are very heavy and tend to take up a lot of space overhead for the door when opened. Roller shutter doors are well insulated and provide a great sound barrier all whilst insulating the garage well, keeping the room cool in the summer months and warm during the wintertime. When fitted correctly, the roller shutter door is a very safe option. you can decide if you want the door to open and close manually or by motor. Either option makes it easy to use, as they are very smooth to open and close.
Round the corner door- With Similar properties to the roller shutter door, round the corner doors use the side axle to open and close. The panels are vertical rather than horizontal, so the garage does not need the same height clearance as the roller shutter. While the round the corner garage door has more of the appearance of a side hinged door, it features more of the benefits of a roller shutter door. Steel, like aluminum, is a fantastic material for garage doors that run around a corner on tracks. It’s strong, long-lasting, an excellent insulator and will undoubtedly endure the test of time. Steel is also more contemporary, so if you want a round the corner door with a little different look (beyond the traditional timber appearance), it will be the perfect garage door option for your home.
Side hinged doors- Side hinged doors are a lovely door for any home, and provide a good level of security when fitted with a string locking system. these doors tend to be two separate panels that are hinges to each side go the garage entrance- meaning the doors open outwards for access. Because the doors open outwards, it requires a clearance space to be able to open the doors fully to allow entry through the door. If your house does not have a long drive, having enough space to safely pull your vehicle on to the driveway with enough clearance to open the door may be an issue. Side hinged doors are available in a variety of materials and styles and tend to be less expensive than the up and over doors. Because of their size, side hinged doors can look out of proportion for small garages as they tend to take up a lot of space.
Up and over garage doors- These garage doors are a very popular option for many homes in the UK. They are relatively bulky in size, which allows them to be more sturdy and secure than the other styles of garage doors. The door goes up into a space within the garage ceiling, taking up less room on the outside of your home. It also gives you easy access to the back of your vehicle when opened making loading easier. This style of door does not require as much clearance space between the door and your vehicle to open and close it, similar to the roller shutter and round the corner doors.
Sectional garage doors- These types of doors are very popular in the UK because they provide a number of key advantages to you and your family. They give you easy access into the garage from both sides, which is great if you have a large vehicle or other objects blocking access to one side of your garage. They also allow for the storage space above the door to be used while still providing ample room to open and close them making it safe for children and pets.
Sectional Overhead Doors- sectional garage doors are designed for compact opening, as they glide open vertically into the roof space where they are neatly stored. Unlike other overhead doors, the sectional overhead doors operate using hinges to tilt out and push up the door to open – the vertical movement of sectional garage doors means they will never extend beyond the doorway.
There are many different advantages and drawbacks to each style of garage door, and it is important to understand all options before buying a new garage door for your home.
